Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a nonabsorbable material of high biocompatibility which for many years has been used for the production of vascular implants, heart valves and membranes for guided bone regeneration. PTFE can also be used for the production of surgical suture.

I’ve been using Coreflon PTFE surgical suture to stitch the wound after implantation and augmentation for over one year now. The product is worth recommending at each state of surgery and treatment. Coreflon suture does not coil or tangle, sutures are flexible and do not cause tissue tension. Patients feel more comfortable after surgery in comparison to use of conventional monofilaments. Coreflon suture does not irritate soft tissue, does not cause inflammatory reactions, mucous membrane heals quickly and does not leave scars.

I am using for more than one year now the PTFE Coreflon sutures for our minimally invasive bone augmentation concept - the “open healing” concept - and I believe this is the right time for me to give feedback. Parameters, structure and excellent needle quality of Coreflon PTFE suture makes it a perfect material for stiching wounds in the skin and mucous membrane areas. I have used Coreflon suture several times now and I am very pleased. It is easy to work with if you know how to proceed. PTFE suture is quite demanding itself but in skilled hands it is a very good and versatile product in comparison to other market leading brands. It's long enough to work on bigger implant sites where often two sutures had to be used. With Coreflon I just need one. 3/8 needle suits my needs better than 1/2, but that is my personal preference.
